- Nominal size is only 26.73 × 21.31 mm.
- GS1 assigns EAN-8 numbers separately and sparingly, because the number range is small.

Frequently asked questions
- Is EAN-8 just a shortened EAN-13?
- No. It is a separate number range; you cannot derive an EAN-8 from your EAN-13 by dropping digits.
- Do all checkout scanners read EAN-8?
- Yes, EAN-8 is part of the retail standard and read everywhere EAN-13 is.
- When should I not use EAN-8?
- Whenever an EAN-13 fits. GS1 treats EAN-8 as the exception for very small packaging.
