How a GTIN-14 is built

Digit 1 is the indicator: 1–8 for packaging levels, 9 for variable-measure items, 0 for a single consumer unit.
Digits 2–13 are the GTIN-13 without its own check digit (company prefix plus item reference).
Digit 14 is the mod-10 check digit, recalculated over the first 13 digits.
A GTIN-14 is usually printed as an ITF-14 barcode, or inside GS1-128 with application identifier (01).
