- (10) batch or lot number, up to 20 characters.
- (17) expiry date in YYMMDD format.

Frequently asked questions
- Why brackets around the identifiers?
- The brackets are only notation for humans and for the generator. They are not encoded in the barcode itself.
- GS1-128 or ITF-14 on a carton?
- ITF-14 carries only the GTIN. As soon as batch, weight or expiry date must travel with the item, use GS1-128.
- What is an SSCC?
- The Serial Shipping Container Code (00) uniquely identifies one logistics unit – typically one pallet – over its whole journey.
