ITF-14 Generator

ITF-14 (Interleaved 2 of 5, 14 digits) is the standard barcode on shipping cases and cartons. Its thick bearer bars survive printing on corrugated board, which is exactly why logistics scanners rely on it.

  • Encodes exactly 14 digits – a GTIN-14 including its mod-10 check digit.
  • Digits are encoded in pairs, so the length must always be even.
  • The bearer bar frame protects the code against ink spread on cardboard.
  • Typical print size is 50–100% of the nominal symbol, with a minimum bar width around 0.495 mm on corrugated board.

Frequently asked questions

Can an ITF-14 be scanned at the checkout?
No. Retail point of sale uses EAN-13 or UPC-A. ITF-14 is meant for warehouse and logistics scanning of outer packaging.
Why does my ITF-14 not scan?
Most failures come from printing too small, missing the light quiet zone left and right, or from a wrong check digit. Print from the SVG whenever possible.
Do I need bearer bars?
For direct printing on corrugated board GS1 requires them; the generator includes them by default.
